RIGA http://www.redwingsauthority.com/authentic-sergei-fedorov-red-wings-jersey/ , Oct. 05 (Xinhua) -- The opposition leftist pro-Russia Harmony may have scored a narrow win in Latvia's 2014 parliamentary election this Saturday, but the existing government coalition of centre-right parties appear set to stay on after receiving a majority of seats in Latvian parliament, the Saeima.

According to the preliminary election results announced by the Latvian Central Election Commission Sunday, the Harmony party emerged as the winner of this Saturday's election with 23.26 percent of the vote. The center-right Unity was the runner-up with 21.62 percent and the centrist Greens and Farmers Union (ZZS) came third winning 19.74 percent of the vote. The nationalist conservative National Alliance won 16.5 percent of votes in the parliamentary election.

For Latvia from the Heart, a new leftish party founded by Latvia's former auditor-general Inguna Sudraba, received 6.91 percent, and the Latvian Bloc of Regions 6.47 percent of the vote. Other political parties taking part in the election did not receive more than 5 percent of the vote, necessary to get mandates in the Latvian parliament.

The results mean that the Harmony will get 24 mandates in Latvia's 100-seat parliament. The Unity will get 23, ZZS 21, the National Alliance 17, the Latvian Bloc of Regions 8 and For Latvia from the Heart 7 mandates, the Central Election Commission said on Sunday afternoon.

Latvian President Andris Berzins has decided to give political parties a week for negotiations before he names a prime minister-designate.

"All parties will have a week, starting tomorrow, to hold their internal discussions and of course talks with their potential coalition partners. I will start talks with particular parties in a week," the president said on Latvian public television on Sunday morning.

Under the Latvian law, it is the president's prerogative to name a prime minister-designate, tasked with forming the new government after general elections.

President Berzins described the outcome of the parliamentary election as a clear endorsement for the existing coalition, which won a safe majority in the new parliament. "Although 40 percent [of the MPs] are newcomers, the vote has been convincing," he said.

The current government coalition comprising the Unity, the National Alliance and ZZS should become the core of the new coalition, which might also include the Latvian Bloc of Regions, Roberts Zile, a member of the European Parliament and one of the National Alliance's leaders, told BNS.

The MEP indicated that the three ruling parties had won a sufficient number of votes in the parliamentary election to be able to form the government without involving anyone else, but that an expanded coalition would ensure greater political stability in the long run.

Augusts Brigmanis, chairman of the ZZS faction in Latvia's current parliament, also said that the existing coalition had won enough mandates to carry on with its work in government without forming partnerships with the parliament's newbies.

Unlike Zile, Brigmanis believes that with more than 60 seats in the new parliament, there is no need for the existing coalition to expand by including the Latvian Bloc of Regions and For Latvia from the Heart. "It means that the current coalition can continue to work," Brigmanis said.

ZZS would also have no objections to incumbent Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma of the Unity party staying on as head of the new government.

Harmony leader Nils Usakovs believes, though, that President Berzins should give the Harmony as the winner of the election the opportunity to form Latvia's next government.

"We do not have problems cooperating with any political force, but some political forces have problems cooperating with us," the Harmony leader told BNS.

Usakovs said that the Harmony had been holding negotiations with other political parties about a possible government coalition, but did not name these parties.

In all, 13 political parties and electoral blocs competed for the 100 seats in the Saeima in the general election this Saturday, October 4.

Voter turnout in the election reached 58.78 percent, according to the Central Election Commission's data.

Armed and masked anti-terrorism police swooped on woodland villages northeast of Paris on Thursday in a manhunt for two brothers suspected of being the Islamist gunmen who killed 12 people at a French satirical weekly.

A day after the Paris attack, officers carried out house-to-house searches in the village of Corcy, a few km (miles) from a service station where police sources said the brothers were sighted in ski masks. Helicopters flew overhead.

The fugitive suspects are French-born sons of Algerian-born parents, both in their early 30s, and already under police surveillance. One was jailed for 18 months for trying to travel to Iraq a decade ago to fight as part of an Islamist cell. Police said they were "armed and dangerous".

United States and European sources close to the investigation said on Thursday that one of the brothers, Said Kouachi, was in Yemen in 2011 for a number of months training with Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), one of the group's most active affiliates.

A Yemeni official familiar with the matter said the Yemen government was aware of the possibility of a connection between Said Kouachi and AQAP, and was looking into any possible links.

U.S. government sources said Said Kouachi and his brother Cherif Kouachi were listed in two U.S. security databases, a highly classified database containing information on 1.2 million possible counter-terrorism suspects, called TIDE, and the much smaller "no fly" list maintained by the Terrorist Screening Center, an interagency unit.
