Women and girls from Iraq's Yazidi minority endured horrors at the hands of Islamic State group extremists after they were taken as slaves when last summer Thomas Welsh Nuggets Jersey , leaving them deeply traumatized, an international watchdog group said in a report issued on Tuesday.

The Amnesty International report based on interviews with over 40 former captives who were among hundreds of women and girls from the Yazidi religious minority captured by IS fighters in early August when the militants overran their hometown of Sinjar. Hundreds were killed in the attack, and tens of thousands were either stranded in nearby Mount Sinjar or fled mostly to the Kurdish-held parts of northern Iraq.

The London-based group said the captives, including girls aged 10-12, faced torture, rape, forced marriage and were "sold" or given as "gifts" to IS fighters or their supporters in militant-held areas in Iraq and Syria. Often, captives were forced to convert to Islam.

"Hundreds of Yazidi women and girls have had their lives shattered by the horrors of sexual violence and sexual slavery in IS captivity," Amnesty's Senior Crisis Response Adviser Donatella Rovera said in a statement.

"Many of those held as sexual slaves are children ¡ª girls aged 14, 15 or even younger," Rovera added.

Fearful of rape, some captives committed suicide ¡ª like the 19-year old Jilan, according to her brother and one of the 20 girls who were with her.

"One day we were given clothes that looked like dance costumes and were told to bathe and wear those clothes," the girl quoted in the report. "Jilan killed herself in the bathroom. She cut her wrists and hanged herself. She was very beautiful; I think she knew she was going to be taken away by a man and that is why she killed herself," added the girl who was among those who later escaped.

The Yazidis are a centuries-old religious minority viewed as apostates by extremists in Iraq. They have suffered religious persecution for generations because of their beliefs, which include some elements similar to Christianity, Judaism and other ancient religions. Many Muslims consider them devil worshippers, an accusation that Yazidis strongly dispute.

The June onslaught by IS stunned Iraqi security forces and the military, which melted away and withdrew as the extremists advanced, capturing key cities and towns in the country's north. The militants also targeted Iraq's indigenous religious minorities, including Christians and Yazidis, forcing tens of thousands from their homes.

Since then, the Islamic State has carved out a self-styled caliphate in the large area straddling the Iraqi-Syrian border that it now controls.

Alarmed with their advance, the United States launched in early August airstrikes on the militant-held areas in Iraq, in an effort to help the Iraqi forces fight back against the growing militant threat. Since then, some progress has been made on the ground by government forces, Kurdish fighters and Shiite militias.

Diabetic or not, most adults in the US (and these days teens too) have at some point in time or the other done a blood glucose test. We all know that blood glucose test is meant to test for â€˜sugarâ€?in the blood. But is blood really sweet? In my article today, allow me to give you a ball park overview of what exactly is a Glucose Test Strips.

A blood glucose test can be done at home with a good quality diabetic test strip or blood sugar monitor (sold over the counter by most drug stores) or at a medical testing facility or clinic.

If you are visiting the clinic for a blood glucose test then I recommended that you fast â€?eat or drink nothing other than water for at least 8 hours prior to the test (hence it is called the fasting blood glucose test). Obviously therefore, the best time to do a blood glucose test at a clinic would be early morning.

Is the blood sweet?

We need energy for everything â€?even when we are asleep and busy dreaming we need energy. Energy is primarily obtained from Glucose. Glucose in turn is manufactured by our body from the food that we eat. Each organ in our body needs glucose and so the body uses the blood stream as the best way to transport glucose around.

Too much electrical current or too little of it can ruin your precious digital gadget. As with everything in life, in blood too, there is an optimal level of glucose. Anything above or below the optimal level causes severe problems. Think of the blood glucose test as a glucose testing meters that indicates the current level of glucose in your blood.

Once you arrive at the medical clinic, a small blood sample is drawn from a vein in the arm. The standard practice is to put 50% in one tiny sterile bottle and the remaining in another tiny sterile bottle. This is so two tests can be done to verify the results. In reality, most clinics that do a blood glucose test only perform a single test. A second test is done only if the supervisor feels the results of the first test are unrealistic.

A second blood glucose test is done through blood glucose meters an hour after your lunch. The procedure is identical to one done in the morning.

The results

70 ~ 99 mgdL (3.9 to 5.5 mmolL) would be the normal reading for fasting blood glucose test

100 ~ 125 mgdL (5.6 to 6.9 mmolL) would indicate impaired fasting blood glucose (an indication of pre-diabetes stage).

126 mgdL (7.0 mmolL) and more would usually call for at least one more round of testing before pronouncing the person as a diabetic.
