Starting from the 16th century, during religious wars between the Catholics and the Protestants, this small country castle, which by the time had turned into a huge well-reinforced stronghold, served as a shelter for the nobility, most of whom, however, preferred Castles of the Loire. In the 17th century royalties lost their interest in Vincennes as a country residence, but, to make some use of it, they turned Ch�teau de Vincennes into a state prison. Many famous people were imprisoned in it. Marie de' Medici started construction of the new classic-style pavilion and settled there with her son, future king Louis XIII, during her regency. In the end of the 17th century there was the Queen's pavilion added to the construction and this way the whole architectural ensemble got two wings (the king's and the queen's).

The beginning of the 18th century brought another change in the castle's �specialization� and for the next 20 years it served as a royal porcelain manufacture. Then the king wanted to sell it but those who lived and worked there strongly opposed to this decision and the castle stayed a symbol of royal powers, which was then, during the revolution, distorted into the royal tyrany. During the times of the Napoleon its main function was to defend, and the castle turned into a fortress. After this time of great battles and glorious victories there were barracks founded there, for some time the castle also served as military headquarters. Napoleon III turned the Bois de Vincennes and its ch�teau into a public park.

LUSAKA, March 19 (Xinhua) -- The Zambia Under-17 women national soccer team have been booted out of the on-going FIFA Women' s World Cup in Costa Rica after suffering a second loss in a game played in the early hours of Wednesday, Zambian time.


The young Zambian ladies, who were beaten 2-0 on Sunday morning by Italy in the opening game, crashed out of the tournament after a 4-0 drabbing by Venezuela in Group A and are perched at the bottom of the table with no points.


According to a statement placed on the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) facebook page, Venezuela scored through Gabriela Garcia who scored a hat-trick while Deyna Castellanos scored the fourth goal to boot the Zambian girls out of the tournament they were participating in for the first time.


Zambia' s next game will be against host Costa Rica.


Peter Makembo, the head of the country' s Sports Fans Association, told Xinhua that the girls should not be condemned for failing to sail to the next round at the tournament because the country lacked a serious women soccer league.


He said the poor performance of the girls should be placed on the soccer governing body which has failed to properly organized women football in the country.


""The main problem is with FAZ. FAZ needs to put in place a deliberate policy in which all the premier league teams should have women teams. We are struggling with improving women football hence this embarrassing performance at international tournaments,"" he said.
